Actually I dislike nowadays WWF issues, as most of stamps set in high denomination. For example Liechtenstein on last year, whole set of the stamps are selling in 8 Swiss Franc, although they are beautiful and attractive. It seems discourage collector to buy more for their collection. In recent years, most of WWF stamps are sell in a sheetlet which contains 2 or 4 sets of stamps. That causes people will spend more in each issue and easily to be as fast as give up this hobby. This time, as well as last time, Fiji issued a attractive sheet includes 2 sets total value near 7 Euro. I still ordered a FDC and 2 sheets, the only reason is it related to parrot.

Collared Lory is an endemic species to Fiji, specially it can be found from forest to urban area, like Lau Island and Lakeba. The live of the parrot has been humanized to suitable urban situation, especially Suva, the capital of Fiji.

Collared Lory is not an endangered species, due to seem the organization agreed to approve more non-dangered species appear onthe stamps.

Many-coloured Fruit-Dove

Many-coloured Fruit-Dove (雜色果鳩)
Fiji (2009)
2nd March, 2009. Suva

Fijian fruit dove issue again, this cover only features Many-coloured Fruit Dove. On the time of preparing the cover, postage to Hongkong was $1,70 and that means above stamps meet the Fijian postage rate. However when I checked a month ago, it is $2,20 for 30g mail, anyway it is excellent cover in my collection.

The cover on the left hand side features an overprinted stamp, original issued on 1998 but overprinted in unknown day. I have been advised Fiji Post, it didn't have answer but listed how many overprint stamps post office have. Who have more information of the stamp ? Please email to me, thanks !

This year Fiji Post issues four Ptilinopus (鳩鴿科) stamps for annual bird theme, those four doves may very common in south-west Pacific or endemic to Fiji. Many-coloured Fruit-Dove as same as its name, it has colourful feather and lives in Fiji, the Samoan Islands and Tonga. Crimson-crowned Fruit-Dove also can be found in same area, but sometimes it lives in Marshall Islands to Micronesia. Velvet Dove and Orange are endemic to Fiji, Velvet Dove can be found in Kadavu and Ono in the Kadavu Group but Orange Dove lives in the forests of Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Rabi, Kioa, Qamea and Laucala islands.

The above cover is self-printed envelope, which special for this issue, however the registered label overlapped the illustration. The postmark, is illustrated Many-coloured Fruit-Dove, it is not clear enough as the ink seem colourless.
